FD Rant News - October 2016 GREENLAWN Pickup Under Box Truck Story and Photo by Jackie Canino On August 26th Greenlawn firefighters responded to a two-vehicle accident on Pulaski Road between Bartel Drive and Taylor Avenue. A pickup truck collided with a box truck resulting in two victims being transported to the hospital. NORTH LINDENHURST Drivers Transported after Overturn Story and Photo by Joe Cassano The North Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with overturn and a victim trapped, on August 26th, located at 701 North Wellwood Avenue. Upon arrival, units advised there was no entrapment in a vehicle, but a pickup truck was turned on its side. With assistance from the Copiague Fire Department [one ambulance requested to the scene] the drivers of both vehicles were evaluated and transported to area hospitals. HEMPSTEAD Workin’ in The Hub Story and Photos by Kevin Madigan At 2338 hours on Wednesday, August 31st, the Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 156 Amherst Street off of Bennett Avenue. Responding units were advised that multiple calls were being received reporting a fire at that location, that there may be occupants trapped, and that there was a member on scene advising of a working fire. When units arrived on scene they were met with smoke and fire showing from the second floor of a two-story private dwelling. The working fire signal was quickly transmitted. West Hempstead Fire Department was notified for the FAST and responded with Ladder 765. Also called to the scene was Mineola Volunteer Ambulance and an engine from South Hempstead Fire Department. Hempstead Engine 2 and Truck 1were the first engine and truck companies to arrive. At least two hand lines were stretched and put into operation to fight the fire. Searches throughout the home were negative. Units from South Hempstead, Roosevelt, and Uniondale Fire Departments stood by during the operation. All fire units were under the command of Chief Hendry [80]. Page 12
