FD Rant News - October 2016 DIX HILLS MVA with Overturn Story and Photo by Devin Malloy On August 22nd, in the late evening hours, the Dix Hills Fire Department was activated for an accident with a reported overturned vehicle on Buttonwood Drive. When department units arrived on scene they found one overturned vehicle with all occupants out of the car. Two heavy rescue engines responded to the scene and secured the vehicle while ambulance personnel treated and transported a patient to an area hospital. All operations were under the command of Chief Robert Fling [2-8-30]. MEDFORD SUV Flips After Hitting Pole Story and Photo by Chris Sabella On Wednesday, August 24th, just after midnight, a single-car accident sent one driver to a local hospital, after her SUV hit a utility pole and flipped over. Medford Firefighters responded and found the vehicle on its roof after it had collided with the pole, snapping it into pieces. The trapped driver needed extrication and transport. North Patchogue Ambulance took the victim to Brookhaven Hospital for treatment. HAUPPAUGE Another Pole Taken Out Story and Photo by Devin Malloy On Wednesday, August 24th, the Hauppauge Fire Department was alerted to an auto accident with overturn on Wheeler Road. When units arrived on the scene there was a car flipped on its side that had collided with a telephone pole. The pole, leaning over the roadway from the impact, forced firefighters to work carefully and quickly to secure the vehicle and make sure the patient got to the ambulance safely. The road was closed for an extended period of time until the pole could be removed and replaced. The patient was transported to an area hospital and units took up shortly after. FARMINGVILLE Mother and Children Hurt in MVA Story and Photo by Chris Sabella On Saturday morning, August 27th, a mother was ejected from her vehicle and her two children were injured after a collision on southbound Nicholls Road. Units from both Farmingville and Holtsville Fire Departments responded to secure the scene. Suffolk County Police Aviation landed on Nicholls Road and airlifted the mother to Stony Brook University Hospital. Both children [one an infant] were taken by ground transport [Farmingville Ambulance]
