ON THE COVER
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
This is my final newsletter message to the
members of Fort Collins Country Club as my
term as President comes to an end this month.
At the Annual Meeting on October 20th, I’ll
pass the baton to Sean Tomlinson, who has
been Vice-President and a very active member
of the Board this past year. I am confident that
the Club will continue to make great strides
under Sean’s leadership. I’ll stay involved
Mark Smith
Club President
for the next year as Past-President and will
offer my advice to the Board as we meet the
challenges of becoming a year-round facility and work to implement
Phase II of our strategic plan. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to
serve as the President of the Club. I’ve learned much more than I ever
imagined about our Club and our industry. I appreciate the tremendous
amount of support I got along the way. Thanks.
I’d like to offer up a few observations about the past year:
• Our decision to invest in the Club has paid great dividends in just
one year. We added over 70 new members to the Club in 2014.
There is a more vibrant feel to the Club, and participation in all
areas of the Club (golf, tennis, pool, dining) was up in 2014.
• The Club met the financial goals we set at the beginning of the
year and in the strategic plan. The focus on revenues and selective
investments resulted in the best year on record.
• The golf course was in the best shape ever in the 15 years that I’ve
been a member. The Grounds team did a great job in beautifying
our course while also having the greens and fairways in tip-top
shape.
• Our tennis teams represented FCCC well in USTA Leagues. We
had men’s, women’s and mixed doubles teams move on to district
and regional championships this year. It was also fantastic to see so
many golf members also participating on the tennis teams.
• At the beginning of the year, we set a goal to greatly improve the
visibility and involvement of FCCC in the community. I am very
pleased with our results in letting people know what we’re doing
up here at the Club. I am also proud that FCCC gave back to the
community through the charitable events we’ve sponsored. Thanks
to our members for supporting the community.
• Finally, our construction of Phase I is almost done. Thanks for
being so tolerant with the minor inconveniences that accompanied
the project. We’ll move forward with running a year-round Club,
and if all goes according to plan, we’ll start the process all over again
with Phase II, currently scheduled over the winter of 2015-2016.
As for the future, the Board and I have asked Scott and the staff to put
even more focus on excellence in operations in every department of the
Club. A positive experience at our Club, combined with the best set of
year-round amenities in the area is the surest way for our Club to remain
vibrant and successful in the future.
Finally, I want to thank those members who’ve volunteered to serve on
the Board and Committees of the Club. In my two-and-a-half years
as President, I’ve appreciated your efforts and results in improving our
Club. If you see a Board member or committee member around the
Club, say thanks…I certainly know they deserve it.
See you at the Club!
