Nowhere in Africa was directed by Caroline Link and based on the 1995 autobiography by Stephanie Zweig. The film tells the story of

Regina (Lea Kurka and Karoline Ekertz) and how she adapts when her Jewish family flees to Kenya in 1938 to escape persecution at the hands of the growing Nazi party. The film also details the struggles of her mother Jettle (Juliane Kohler) as she tries to adjust and keep her relationship alive with Regina's father Walter (Merab Ninidze)

The film details many every day struggles such as farming for food, cooking, and building relationships within their new community. The film also depits larger moral issues, such as adultery. We see the characters grow and change as they react to leaving their home. We also get the privledge of watching Regina grow up in an exotic and new enviorment.
