The under representation of women still remains a huge concern for those in the industry and those entering the industry. Although women are the primary end consumers in fashion, only 14 percent of the top 50 fashion brands are in fact run by women. It is argued through research that women are less assertive, less confident and less willing to say what they want therefore meaning they are less likely to progress. But surely if this is the case then we should be motivating and inspiring women to become successful and to progress within their career?
Although fashion is one of the most diverse and influential industries, it is not without it challenges. But fashion is space for exploration and for people to find who they want to be. Fashion has its own identity that allows you to be the person you want to be.

This just shows that the industry is so vast
and so open to so many opportunities for so
many people. However, it is about being a
part of the business and having the business
skills. Unfortunately, this means if you start
as a creative you probably won't be designing because you'll be running a business.
In order to succeed in fashion, characteristics
such as being solution-driven, prepared and adaptive have to remain important to you as
an individual. In the fashion industry you
have to be incredibly flexible but also
inquisitive about what is happening in the
World and how this is influencing other
aspects. You need to be able to question what drives and inspires things.
Being open to the World means that it is important not to limit yourself to your personal specialism, it is crucial to not fear the unknown in fashion because ultimately that is what fashion is - unknown.
Being a woman in fashion is also another step in to the unknown.
