Fashion Wanderer have been talking to people who work within the fashion industry. In this issue we have spoken to Judean Lowe, a lecturer from the Fashion Retail Academy. Judean is the course leader for Level 3 Fashion Business and Retail which is a University of Arts London Level 3 certified course. We asked Judean; What degree/education do you have in order to be a lecturer?.
"Colleges and Universities are often more interested in a teacher's vocational experience and how this expertise can be shared with students. It is preferential for Lecturers to have the basic qualification - PTLLS, or preferably a full PGCE, PGCE for Post-Compulsory Education or PGcert".
What are your specialist subjects and why have you chosen to specialise in these specifically?
"I have taught a variety of subjects that include Business Enterprise (Starting your own business) and Event management, however my specialist subjects are Retail Environments, Retail Operations and Career Development for Post-16.
Career Development for Post-16 is my favourite because as a teacher you are able to help students to find their niche, and get them started on their career pathways. For me, this unit is the one that gives the greatest job satisfaction, seeing students' progress, discover their strengths and address their weaknesses and in general witness personal growth and development!"
WORKING
IN THE
INDUSTRY
"What is your favourite part about being in a Fashion college?"
"The students! The role of a teacher has expanded from just imparting knowledge, to be a counselor, agony aunt, social worker, career's officer all wrapped up in one role."
