Types of retailers
Multiple retailers are referred to as multi-channel retailing. It is a way to operate a retail business in which you offer products to customers through multiple retail channels.
Examples of this are River Island, Next, Topshop, Office, H&M and Zara.
The location is at a popular area for their target audience. Multiple retailers provide womenswear, menswear and childrenswear.
Department stores are large retail stores showing a wide variety of merchandise and organised into various departments for sales and administrative purposes.
An example of department stores are Harrods, Fenwick, Debenhams and Selfridges.
Department stores are located in high-end places because they sell all three of the clothing, basic, fashion and fad. However, Debenhams has been located in a smaller town.
An independent retailer is when someone is completely responsible for their own business. The retailer owns an independent store and has built the business from the ground up by assessing all needs of the store.
Superdry, Mulberry and Joy are independent stores, however these three stores are different within themselves.
The location depends on how popular the shop is, for example, Mulberry would be seen out of town in shopping centres and high end towns, Where as Joy would be seen on a high street.
