COMPARING
Target Audience
Both brands have a similar target audience although Missguided has somewhat of a younger feel to it. Instantly when being greeted with the Missguided website you are met with bright pinks, unicorn prints and bold, clear deals. The Topshop website has a more sophisticated feel with white backgrounds and clear black fonts, this could be a reflection of the price difference of the two brands also. While Topshop is a high street retailer, it’s the higher end of High street in comparison to Missguided who’s prices are slightly more budget but maybe as a result not
as good quality.
SO, how do they advertise? Missguided is renounced for its incredible and effective advertising, I mean, you can barely go three scrolls on twitter without a post from the Missguided Crew showing off the latest collection. Advertisement is key for Missguided, especially online. Being an online retailer their name isn’t seen on your local high street or in your shopping mall so social media is key for them to thrive. Social media is an incredible platform for Missguided. They are consistent with their advertising working behind the scenes building new deals and discount codes for users to retrieve. As well as this, they also offer exclusive online deals for app users- 24hrs of 50% off is just one example.
In the ever changing and hugely profitable Retail world, companies are often fighting for ad campaigns and promotions which are going to spark interest amongst the consumer. The 16-30 female demographic is a huge sector of which consumer spending is one of its highest and one which business’ like River Island, New Look and Zara and are all trying to compete for top spot.
Topshop is a multi-national and infamously huge brand in the fashion industry whose profits have only increased in previous years. Topshop are constantly keeping up with trends, releasing new lines and celebrity collaborations and adding to their vast range of Womenswear, footwear, accessories and beauty.
Missguided, an online and booming retailer which some would consider a ‘new-be’ on the scene of the fashion industry. Like Topshop, Missguided are constantly trying to incise new customers with their clever advertising.
