A city full of diversions , Pattaya has great beaches , brilliant shopping and a colourful , nightlife . North Pattaya is the most peaceful , yet far from secluded , while Central and South Pattaya is regarded as the resort ’ s hub with no end of hotels , markets , shopping malls , bars , restaurants and entertainment all vying for your attention . Just south of Pattaya is Jomtien , a quieter resort and popular with watersport enthusiasts . Pretty Koh Samet is a designated national park . Its 14 small but dazzlingly white beaches are incredibly scenic , lapped by warm turquoise sea and shaded by palms or cajeput ( samet ) trees . A magical place to take it easy within beautiful and authentic surroundings . In the far east of the Gulf of Thailand , near the Cambodian border , is Koh Chang . Relatively undiscovered , it lures with a tropical island vibe , fabulous beaches , rugged mountains , rainforest , mangroves and waterfalls . Explore charming fishing villages , trek through jungle , visit ancient temples or head below the waves for abundant snorkel and dive sites .
Getting there : The road transfer from Bangkok to Pattaya or Jomtien takes about 1½ hours . For Koh Samet the drive is about 2¼ hours followed by a boat journey . All visitors to Koh Samet are required to pay an entrance fee locally ( approx £ 5 ). For Koh Chang the flight from Bangkok to Trat takes 45 minutes , followed by a road transfer and sea crossing . Private transfers are included to Pattaya and Jomtien . The road transfers for Koh Samet and Koh Chang are private but onward boat transfers are shared .
Best time to go : This region enjoys hot weather all year , although the cool season ( November-February ) is considered the best time to visit with low humidity and temperatures averaging 31 º C . The rainy season ( April-October ) brings brief downpours as well as lots of sun .
