Unmissable Kuala Lumpur Experiences
Malaysia- Kuala Lumpur
Kuala
Lumpur
A compelling metropolis where old meets new
Once little more than mud and marsh, today KL, as it’ s affectionately known, is a dazzling city smoothly blending old-world temples, grand mosques and a colonial past with soaring futuristic skyscrapers and glamorous shopping malls. It’ s incredibly easy to navigate, with the city centre itself delightfully compact and best explored on foot or via the extensive public transport network.
Start your discoveries at KL’ s colonial core around Merdeka Square( Independence Square), whose handsome landmarks include the Royal Selangor Club and Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Close by is the imposing Old Railway Station, the highly revered Jamek Mosque and picturesque Perdana Botanical Garden.
Looming large over KLCC( Kuala Lumpur City Centre) and giving the city a sci-fi edge are the 88 storey Petronas Twin Towers. Very much the defining feature of the skyline, a Sky Bridge links the two towers from the 41st and 42nd floors and is your go to place for bird’ s eye views. If, however, you want your city vistas to include the Petronas Twin Towers, whizz to the Menara KL Tower which has a higher observation deck as well as a Sky Box, Sky Deck and the Tower Walk 100.
Catch your breath in KLCC Park, a lush 50 acre urban sanctuary before checking out colourful Chinatown for the intricately detailed Sri Maha Mariamman temple or Petaling Street, a bargain hunter’ s paradise, particularly at the lively night market. For shopping malls and boutiques as well as trendy cafes, restaurants and nightspots, look no further than swanky Bukit Bintang.
You’ re also in for a treat as far as dining goes, with everything from award-winning gourmet restaurants to chic bistros and cheap eats at steaming street stalls. Top off your time in KL, with a nightcap at a rooftop bar where, with drink in hand you can absorb a horizon gleaming with illuminated minarets and iconic towers.
