TR: What is it like working with Pharrell?
CB: It’s an awesome learning experience to have a supportive big brother
like that. He has a very uncanny knack to see things before they happen in
fashion and music. He is very easygoing and a good soul. It makes it
wonderful to work with a brother like that. He truly appreciates the design
process.
TR: How did you get your start in the industry?
CB: I grew up in the industry. My grandmother was a dressmaker. So being
around her and growing up, it’s in my blood. I started to work as a tailoring
apprentice through high school. So I took the raw talent that I have and
appreciation for fabric and sewing and took that to another level to
understand how design works in a more structured corporate environment. I
worked at Sean John and Nike for a while and many other jobs along the
way.
TR: How would you describe your personal style?
CB: It depends on the day and how I feel. But coming from a tailoring
background I am more of tailored sportswear kind of guy. I like for things to
fit right and feel right and to function right. Those three things, fit, feel and
function are kind of my mantra for design.
TR: Where do you go or what do you do to gain some inspiration for your
work?
