The only English-Speaking country in South America

Guyana is ethnically diverse, but largely because it is an English-speaking nation, it is more connected in political and economic institutions, local music and food to nearby English-speaking Caribbean nations than to bordering Surinam, Venezuela or Brazil. Guyana is the lan known as the land of six people. It claims

descendents from Africa, Europe, China, The East Indies and Portugal as well as an Indigenous Amerindian population. This ethnic mix reflects the country's unique history and can be witnessed in its rich culture, diverse food offering and Creole language.

The gobernment of Guyana provides public free education for all Guayanease from the age of 3 years and six months to early adulthood. This provision represents the gobernment's conviction that education is the priority in raising the standart of living of the people of Guyana.
