Mascots bring good luck to events , symbolize a school , and bring entertainment everywhere they go . Whether you know the face behind the Yellowjacket or you ’ re not sure if you might be looking at a real 6 foot 5 inch tall Bulldog , the mascots of our local schools always bring the fun and a school spirit that cannot be duplicated .
Some mascots like the anonymity that comes with the job , a few like being able to show their energetic side in the limelight , and then there are a couple who only respond to their mascot persona . Most of this year ’ s mascots are the first mascots in their family , but there are a few that have cousins and sisters who were mascots and cheerleaders .
One of the varsity mascots is returning for their second time and two are returning for their fifth year . Between these three , they have won a myriad of awards including multiple Best Mascot , All-American Mascot , and Mascot Leadership awards . However , most of this year ’ s mascots are just beginning the excitement and the heat that comes along with the territory .
All of them agree that the main reason they enjoy being a mascot is because they get to have fun and interact with the fans . There is a certain energy that comes with late-night football games and Rhiannon from BHS says that her favorite thing about being a mascot is “ being able to be the super chaotic character
