PAULINE CHEHBOUB
Galorama : What is your background , and how is the family transition unfolding ?
Pauline Chehboub : I was the French pony show jumping champion . After earning my degree from KEDGE Business School , my passion quickly caught up with me , and I joined the family business alongside my father . Gradually , I took over the management of Gousserie Racing . I ’ ve been part of the France Galop Committee for a few years , and in 2023 , I joined the Board of Directors . Under the leadership of President Guillaume de Saint-Seine , the Young ’ s Commission was created , and I serve as its chair . For over 25 years , our family has been involved in racing . The transition is happening naturally . Over time , I ’ ve become involved in all aspects of our operations , both in breeding and racing .
G : What inspires you most about your parents ’ or family ’ s achievements ?
PC : Both my father and uncle are role models for me . They inspire me with their success across different fields , starting from nothing . They are true self-made men with strong values of hard work and respect . My father has always led by example . We are quite reserved as a family , so he doesn ’ t give me much direct advice . Instead , he has shown me through his actions — the best example is my father himself !
G : One quality and one flaw you inherited from your parents ?
PC : Stubbornness . Some might see my persistence as a flaw , but it ’ s what drives me to succeed . I have strong convictions , and I see them through to the end .
G : How do you balance tradition and innovation ?
PC : The two are inseparable . Tradition represents our history , but we can ’ t move forward without innovation . I want to instill the value of hard work and a passion for our sport , ensuring these values are passed down and preserved within our structure .

G : What is your outlook on the breeding market and its key challenges for 2025 ? What is the role for young people ?
PC : The global market is doing well , with new players investing , and we ’ re successfully attracting them . I ’ m optimistic about France and its racing industry . We must continue to highlight the advantages of breeding and racing in France to European stakeholders . Prize money remains strong , and it ’ s possible to breed great champions here while retaining them for their stud careers in France . Young people are essential to our industry — they are the future ! We need to recruit young breeders and owners . The new Young People ’ s Commission includes over 20 members , providing a platform for discussion and debate on various topics . We strive to be proactive and innovative .
G : How do you address ecological challenges as a breeder ?
PC : Ecology concerns all of us . We are EquuRES certified . We ’ ve also undertaken many projects at the stud , such as recycling sand from the training track to create all-weather paddocks . Manure management is another focus area — we use a methanization process . We also graze cows on certain plots during specific times of the year to maintain pastures naturally .
