The first theme, “I am an author,” reveals student development into skilled writers with unique voices and a sense of ownership. The subtheme, “Writers do many things,” represents the knowledge students gained about the processes writers engage in, while “I have all the power!” demonstrates student expression of ownership and self-identification as authors. There were 11 responses in the “Writers do many things” category, and 16 under “I have all the power!” Some exemplar evidence for theme one is shared in Table 1.
