Longtime Auxiliarist Retires
Auxiliarist Andy S . Assimos recently retired after 61 years . He joined 17 MAY 1960 . Mr . Assimos was recently acknowledged by D5NR for 60 Years of Auxiliary Service ( 2020 ) when he received a plaque in May 2021 . At that time , his flotilla commander , Lewis McCullough , contacted him and congratulated him on behalf of Flotilla 053-12-09 . Below are some highlights of Andy ’ s stellar career in the Auxiliary :
a . Over 500 SAR cases b . 7 SAR cases in one day c . Tasked by Sector HQ to set-up the first Surface Ops Programs in Southern Delaware
• USCG Boat Crew Qualified
• Instrumental in breaking up a stolen boat crew ring from Pennsylvania
• Former US Navy
Andy also has a brother , George Assimos ( 94 years old with 20 years plus in the Auxiliary ). The two made a pact years ago ... to retire from the Auxiliary together . George is currently attached to Flotilla 054-10-05 in North Carolina and recently decided to retire .
