SAINT JAMES SCHOOL ART TEACHER’S WORK SELECTED FOR EXHIBITION This exhibit features artworks created by NAEA’s vibrant professional community of visual arts educators, highlighting a portion of the tremendous skill and vision of members worldwide. Many NAEA members are exhibit artists as well. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, NAEA transitioned to a completely virtual exhibition for the safety of its members and the public. Saint James School High School Visual Arts Teacher, Mrs. Evelyn Shoults’ artwork was selected for display on the National Art Education Association website (arteducators.org) until the end of the year. ACA’S ELEMENTARY GARDEN FEATURED ON KATIE’S KROPS The Alabama Christian Academy elementary garden was featured on Katie’s Krops website. Katie’s Krops provides ACA with a grant each year and in return, ACA uses those funds to purchase seeds, plants and tools to teach their students how to care for and grow their own food. MA ANNOUNCES NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND HEAD FOOTBALL COACH The Montgomery Academy announced the appointment of Robert Johnson, Class of 1988, as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. He will support MA’s Upper School math department as well. Coach Johnson is an experienced athletic director, coach and math educator. Coach Johnson comes to MA from Lee-Scott Academy in Auburn, AL where he served as the Head Football Coach, Assistant Basketball Coach, and math teacher. As a student-athlete at Montgomery Academy, Coach Johnson was a member of the 1987 state championship football team, was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State football team, played baseball, was named to the All-City baseball team for two seasons and won the Hitchcock Award for Christian Leadership in Athletics in 1988. TRINITY SCHOOL WELCOMES HEAD OF SCHOOL BILL SHELNUTT TO CAMPUS Trinity School welcomed Head of School Bill Shelnutt to campus effective July 1. Shelnutt was named as Trinity’s fifth Head of School in September by the Trinity Board of Trustees but remained at Saint Luke’s School in Columbus, Georgia to fulfill his obligation as their Head. During this transition time, Merle Henkel served not only in his role as CFO but also as Interim Head of School. Mr. Henkel and Mr. Shelnutt have remained in contact throughout the year, creating a seamless transition in leadership during these unprecedented times. L14 | Fall 2020 www.potentialmagazine.com
