4. What do you enjoy the most and the least about being a principal?

Mr. Meisch thinks his new job has many positive facets to it. He enjoys the academic part and setting of his work. He also likes to plan events and schedules for the school. Being the principal gives Mr. Meisch the freedom of having a different schedule every day and he thinks “it's the least boring job in the world!” Having a higher position also allows him to “make a positive impact on a larger group of people.” A drawback is that he misses teaching. Before becoming a principal, he was an AP Calculus teacher. He said, “The thing that’s hardest about being an administrator is that you don’t have the same relationship with the students that you did as a teacher. I'm trying to prioritize building relationships with the students as principal but it will never be the same as seeing the same kids everyday for a whole year.”

3. As the new principal, what challenges have you faced during the pandemic?

To Mr. Meisch, there have been many challenges to becoming a principal during the coronavirus. One of the main struggles has been the openings and closings since winter break. This is because it’s hard to gain any steam when the school keeps opening and closing. This inconsistency makes it difficult to have a set schedule. Instead, Mr. Meisch has to stay organized and knowledgeable about current events to further plan the schedule. This inconsistent schedule has made it difficult to plan events because of how quickly things change.

Mr. Meisch does not want the students to miss out on special events or announcements and he wants "to do everything but we keep having to reschedule.”

Mr. Meish also finds it difficult to implement everyone’s opinions on how to reopen the school in order to provide the students a safe, but educational, learning experience that works for them. He notes that “a lot of people feel that the school shouldn’t be open, a lot of people think the school should be full day, and then there are those that don’t think sports should run. Regardless of what schools have decided to do this year, there have been people who haven’t been happy.”
