The Saddle Brook Wrestling team had a rebuilding season this past year, but still had wins over Becton, New Milford, and Wood-Ridge. A highlight this season was senior Brooke Tulloch pinning her way through the Bloomfield Girls Holiday Wrestling Tournament in winning the title in the 135-pound weight class. She pinned a returning state medalist in the final and made history by being the first girl from Saddle Brook to win a wrestling tournament title. Coach Jacobson was quoted as saying -
“Brooke is a phenomenal wrestler. She has been working real hard all off-season and been to every off-season event and is ready to go at every practice. She just works hard. Brooke is always up for any challenge. No matter what is thrown at her, she just wants to compete.”
Brooke will be attending Moravian College in the fall as a Nursing major and has also volunteered with helping the recreational wrestling team practice and assists them in preparing for their home matches.
Seniors Michael Faustini and Manny Ortiz both capped off solid careers and had winning seasons. Michael went 19-4 in a tough 145-pound weight class and Manny went 16-6 in the 220-pound weight class. Saddle Brook looks forward to progressing next year with their strong core of young wrestlers, though they will miss the seniors whom they have been training with for the last few years. Overall, the wrestlers enjoyed their season and will continue training individually to prepare for more success next year. What we do know is that the program will only get better in the years to come. There were a lot of factors that led to the results of this season, but looking ahead, there seem to be more positives on the way.
