NASA has found some unusual rocks on the Martian surface that provide the biggest sign of life yet, in the form of a possible biosignature. But first...

Definition - A biosignature is a chemical or physical indication of the presence of past or current life on a planet.

NASA’s Perseverance Rover has found mudstones that have unique markings nicknamed leopard spots and poppy seeds. Some scientists believe these features contain minerals produced by chemical reactions that could be associated with ancient Martian microbes. This makes these features the clearest signs of ancient life on Mars ever found. These findings have met the criteria for NASA to categorize them as potential biosignatures, meaning that they will receive future investigation, making this a story important to keep a close eye on in the future.

Earth's Second Moon

In August 2025, astronomers discovered a small asteroid named 2025 PN7 which has been sharing the Earth’s orbit around the Sun for about the last 60 years. This asteroid is known as a quasi-moon since while it may appear to be orbiting the Earth like the Moon is, it is actually orbiting the Sun and its orbit is on a similar trajectory to Earth's. It will stay in this orbit until 2083 and will be located about 4 million kilometers from the Earth (roughly 10 times the distance of the Moon from Earth).
