Silent Hill 2 has long been praised as one of the best and most influential horror games ever developed. Created by Team Silent in 2001, the game follows James Sunderland in his search for his wife in the fictional town of Silent Hill. The game was praised for it' s unique atmosphere, amazing soundtrack, and at the time, amazing cinematics. In 2024, the game has recieved a complete remake by the Polish developer, Bloober Team, utilizing today's technology to recreate the iconic town in unparalled visual detail. Several other changes made by the remake included various overhauled game mechanics, a revised soundtrack by the original composer, Akira Yamaoka, and a entierly new cast to voice the iconic characters of Silent Hill 2
Despite the overwhelming positive praise for Bloober Team’s remake, many have still criticized the remake for straying from the original at times. In particular, many have criticized that the game has lost a certain “uniqueness” and has become exactly like it’s other subsidiaries, particularly the recent Resident Evil remakes. Gone were the fixed camera angles, the tank controls, the awkward, almost dreamlike original voice acting, and the generally more unsure, tense atmosphere that came from less combat encounters, making one wonder when the next one would occur.
