FALCON FOOTBALL
UPS & DOWNS
The team battered the Harrison Blue Tide 36-0 and battled to beat the Lyndhurst Golden Bears 39-21.
Some highlights also included a successful Homecoming Game that showcased the school’s Color Guard, Marching Band, and Cheerleading Squad. Moments like Homecoming showcased the resilience of our Falcon Community and it was amazing to see all of the students come together in spite of the tough circumstances.
Everyone is looking forward to attending football games next season with the hopes of normalcy, the ability to compete a full season and some more triumphs on the field. Although the record looked bleak, Saddle Brook took a step forward this season by playing in the face of adversity and did nothing but create optimism for a strong 2021.
It was a season underscored by a tough schedule, bad luck, and close calls for the Saddle Brook High School football team. The Falcons finished the fall with a 2-5 record, hindered by the pandemic.
Senior Derek Muoio led the offense with 200 rushing yards, 135 passing yards, and 6 touchdowns. Joe Nudo was a constant target as he accumulated 44 receiving yards and had 3 touchdowns. Senior David Moreno had 40 rushing yards and Junior Nick Ciolino was strong on defense with 2 interceptions this short season.
The offensive line returned four starters this season in Brian Stanzione, Nick Kahwaty, Alex Sucuzhanay, and Daniel Ahmed. James Weiss stepped in at center and the scrappy crew always put up a fight.
Although the Falcons could never find consistency, they had their moments of success. Among some of the season’s achievements, The Falcons saw 7 players named to the All NJIC Liberty Division teams: Derek Muoio, John Hacker, Joey Nudo, David Moreno, Brian Stanzione, Nick Kahwaty, and Nick Ciolino all received the all-division honors.
