Joy Comes in the Morning
Text and photos by Nicole Plymesser Nelson
I love to craft with my kids.
Many times I have to be careful
not to take over the whole project! But sometimes the paper,
glue, and markers just call to
me. And every once in a while,
I need to take a project I could
do with them, and make it adult
time for me. This is one of
those crafts. It could work for
a Sunday school class, but the
little details make it all adult!
And what better way to rejoice
God in the morning? He promises good things to those who
believe and look for them.
I knew I wanted to incorporate several things: pockets
(who can resist a pocket???),
sewing, fringe, buttons, and
strips to document joys.
Spring is coming and some of
my favorite joys at this time
of year are all the daffodils
blooming and the birds building nests. This was so simple
to create, but definitely brought
me joy in the process, joy when
I see its brightness, and it
will bring more joy as I record
things that bring me happiness
each morning. And the best
part? I know all of that joy
stemmed from God and my
faith in Him!
Supplies:
Card stock (brown, white, and
various colors), buttons, thread
and needle or machine, glue
and glue dots, black marker or
gel pen, circle punches, scissors.
1. Start by creating the pocket: fold a sheet of card stock
up 2/3 of the way and crease.
Stitch all the way around the
card stock to create a pocket.
(I used a machine with silver
thread and a zig zag stitch, but
anything goes!)
2. Cut fringe along the top of
the pocket and ruffle the strips
with your fingers to create texture.

I know
all of
that joy
stemmed
from God
and my
faith in
Him!
