Military & Veterans Service Center
The Military & Veterans Service Center supports active-duty service members, veterans, spouses, and dependents as they navigate college and use military or veterans educational benefits. Our team assists students with VA enrollment certification, advising, course planning, priority registration, benefit-related questions, and connections to College and community resources.
Faculty members are often among the first to learn that a student is struggling, considering a withdrawal, or dealing with an unexpected military obligation. An early referral to our office can help the student understand their options before making a decision that may affect their educational benefits or create an unexpected balance.
What Faculty Should Know
Accurate class participation reporting is especially important for students using VA educational benefits. Students reported as never attending may be removed from the course, and their benefits may be adjusted or rescinded. Faculty should follow the College ' s participationreporting procedures and document student participation as accurately as possible.
Students using VA educational benefits should contact the Military & Veterans Service Center before dropping or withdrawing from a course, changing their schedule, or changing the instructional format of a class. These changes can affect a student ' s enrollment level, monthly benefit payments, housing allowance, tuition coverage, or financial responsibility to the College. Students who have already requested certification must also report schedule changes to our office.
VA educational benefits generally cover only courses that apply toward the student ' s approved degree or certificate program. Faculty and academic departments may occasionally be asked to help clarify whether a course is required, substituted, or applicable to a student ' s program. The Department of Veterans Affairs makes the final determination regarding a student ' s eligibility and benefit payments.
Faculty are not expected to interpret VA regulations or determine whether a student ' s benefits will cover a particular course. Please refer students to our office rather than assuring them that a schedule change, withdrawal, repeated course, or alternate course will not affect their benefits.
