ADDRESS FROM
THE NATIONAL
DIRECTOR
As the team sought the Lord for His
direction for Faces 2019, we
received two verses from Him –
Isaiah 46:10 and Isaiah 60:2–3.
These verses hold two sides of the
same coin. On one side, we see the
prophesy of Isaiah being fulfilled,
“The Lord will arise upon you, and
His glory will be seen upon you. And
nations shall come to your light and
kings to the brightness of your
rising.” Just as Isaiah had predicted,
Jesus came into this world to give
life. “In Him was life, and the life was
the light of men. The light shines in
the darkness and the darkness has
not overcome it” (John 1:4–5). On the
other side of the coin, God who sees
the end from the beginning will call
into completion this prophecy that
was proclaimed – the kingdom of the
world, will become the kingdom of
God, when nations and kings come
to His light and man is summoned to
step into His purposes and plans, to
reveal His glory in the darkness.
As He delivers His promises through
prophesy, and promises to fulfil His
prophecies, they work in tandem
with each other. Out of this move of
God, the coin spins, and we come
face to face with the peak of God’s
own glory – the display of His grace
through Jesus who will ransom us
from the darkness that seeks to
destroy us – resulting in worship
through our obedience to the Great
Commission.

side. From the front to the back, we
trace the ripple effect of individuals
who are called out of their personal
darkness. From the back to the
front, we follow the trickle-down
effect of a nation that has broken
through its darkness. Both narratives
climax in the middle, as the reflective
centrefold reminds us that at the
heart of missions, is the call to
behold Him. And when we do, we
catch a glimpse of God’s glory – His
image in us.
Faces 2019 reflects how deeply God
longs for each individual to live in
this light and know their identity in
Him. The stories are a celebration of
the breakthroughs that we have
seen; they honour the missionaries
who have laid down their lives to
serve the last, the least and the lost.
It reveals the darkness that still
exists in our midst and underscores
the necessity of our ongoing labour
with God.
As Singapore enters into her 200th
year since her founding in 1819, may
we remember that we were once
unknown, unreached, forgotten and
broken. But God did not forget us.
He saturated our nation in His light
by bringing us missionaries from the
United Kingdom and other nations
to establish our churches and many
accomplished schools. As Singapore
has received, God’s word to us is:
“GO and DO LIKEWISE”.
May God use us to contribute to His
kingdom’s purposes in Singapore,
and the nations.
