to the influx of even more farmers to
the CARDI booth. Feed mixes
specifically for sheep and goats
were packaged with supporting
literature
and
a
complete
nutrient analysis of the mix.
A specific feed mix was also
provided for pigs and supporting
literature including a nutrient profile
was given to those livestock farmers
as well.
5 Milled mulberry was also packaged
and given away as a free sample.
Cassava stems and leaves were
milled and packaged. Milled
cassava peels were provided for
display purposes as well as the other
ingredients in the feed mixes.
Several people were so fascinated
by the alternative feeds that many
sought to become part of future
trials and experiments with CARDI
Barbados in the areas of: sheep,
goats,
pigs,
fish
and
even
microorganisms.
6 Literature
was
provided
to
highlight the work carried out by
CARDI throughout the Caribbean.
Both hard and soft copies were
made available.
7 Posters and pictures showcasing our
recent work captured the minds of
the public because of the quality
of work and the results produced
through research.
8 In
addition, there was much
constructive discussion on the future
projects and direction of research
for the island of Barbados and
across the Caribbean.
Agrofest
2017
In
summary,
AGROFEST
2017
provided an excellent opportuni-
ty for CARDI Barbados to present
its current research findings and to
interact with key stakeholders in
agriculture. Feedback from visitors
strongly supported the thinking of
farmers looking for alternative
options to augment their conven-
tional systems. This showcase of
improved technology, techniques
and alternatives served to further
cement CARDI’s national agenda
for
innovative
research
and
development in the minds of the
individuals who visited its booth.
Providing visitors with samples of
our work fostered dialogue and
discussion about CARDI’s vision and
mission
on
the
island.
Our
demonstrated ability to help farmers
and farming enthusiasts was well
received.
AGROFEST 2017, under the theme
“Agriculture 50 years and beyond”,
proved to be a very productive
event for CARDI Barbados.
