Merry Christmas!
Hello and welcome to the Christmas edition of the E-Zine magazine. I am Ryaan, the President of the Sustainability Committee this year, and I would like to welcome you to this seasonal edition of the magazine.
This fun packed issue contains many useful articles for the holiday season, including seasonal recipes, a guide on how to grow your own vegetables and the difference between real and plastic trees. We even have a facebook profile for the chickens that we keep at the school!
Before you get into the magazine, I would just like to talk a bit about why I think sustainability is an important issue that everyone should take seriously. I believe that sustainability is the most important issue of this century, and unless we manage the worlds’ resources properly, it has the potential to impact every aspect of our lives, such as our lifestyle, our health, the food we eat, our environment and our future.
The most alarming thing about the issue is that this change is taking place relatively slowly, and as we don’t realize the scale of the danger as we keep adjusting to it. It’s like the frog and the pot of hot water analogy. If a frog jumps into a pot of hot water, it will jumps straight back out. However, if a frog sits in a pot of cold water that is heated up slowly it will stay there, unaware of the gradual change in its surroundings. We all need to do something to pull ourselves out of this situation because if we just carry on the way we are the consequences could be dire.
We all have a part to play in the solution. We can’t rely on the government or the industry to solve these problems as we as the consumers are the ones with the real power to make a difference.
Thank you for taking an interest in the issue of sustainability, and I hope you enjoy this issue of the E-Zine.
