Keep on running…
A running blog
By Nicola Reynolds, Primary Tutor
‘What in the world am I doing?’ I ask myself at 6km, 7km, 8km all the way to 33km.
I think back to when I first started ‘plodding’ around the small village I used to live in back in
the UK. Plodding definitely was and still is the word I use when people ask me “ah you run”.
Let’s just say my body can do it, it just doesn’t look like I have the body for running. Since my
first run I can honestly say I feel more motivated, positive and eager. Although I can’t run
fast, I can run far, so after perseverance and some very sore feet I thought about the next
step, taking on a challenge.
Just a small challenge, I thought, to start. So the next thing I know my application for a
place for the Virgin London Marathon has been approved. It’s ONLY 26.2 miles (42km) on
22nd April 2018! I have plenty of time I thought - 6 months to train, “sorted” I thought! Well
let me tell you, 6 months goes extremely quickly.
Run after run after run I have managed to creep my way to running 2 half marathons and
then to my recent last big run of 33km. Getting up at 4am on a Friday to go running has
now become routine. There has been sweat, tears, sunstroke and laughs along the way and
now the ‘big day’ is just around the corner, which is definitely filling me with excitement and
pride. I am truly proud of what I have done so far. I have seen so many parts of Dubai I didn’t
know existed and I wouldn’t have seen if I hadn’t put on those running shoes.
Wish me luck for the 22nd of April.
