Festive Buttoning! By: Karen Burns Learning about fastenings is a key skill for independence, it also gives lots of opportunities to practice vital fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination. Links with EYFS Physical Development – Moving and Handling 22 – 36 months Positive Relationships; encourage children in their efforts to do up buttons Give your fastening activity a festive theme to capture children’s attention. Using felt for buttoning activities means there is no need for any sewing skills, except for sewing the fastenings on! There is no need to hem as felt does not fray. Use buttons, poppers and velcro to vary the skill level of the activities. Popper Christmas bows Use buttons to fasten the Christmas baubles to decorate the trees.
