Despite this scenario, transport has a lot of potential to advance people’s wellness. Just consider the benefits of the so-called active travel (e.g. walking, cycling) in combination with a sustainable public transport network to improve life conditions at urban level. There is a plenty of research demonstrating that physical activity reduces the risk of numerous chronic disorders and detailed evidence exists for the protective effect of active transport engagement on cardiovascular disease (CVD), certain cancers, and obesity.
In the light of this, the Y4PT World Healthy Mobility Campaign has been launched to instill health and environmental-friendly travel habits in people all over the world and to urge upon policy makers the imperative necessity of changing the way on how investments in transport infrastructure should be focused in order to provide real sustainable mobility options and solutions to citizens.
At UITP Milan 2015,Y4PT will make a balance after this 2-year endeavor.
