My brother and I are from Pensacola, FL. I moved to New Orleans in 1978, my brother did in 1981 and the rest is history. We had a group back in 1971-78. The group’s name was the “Soul Stompers.” When I left Florida, the group disbanded. Thus, the High Impact Band formed in 1982. What or who inspired you to do music? My father inspired me and my brother (the bass player) to do music as boys growing up. We’ve been playing music since we were like 11 or 12 years old. Dad played in a Band called the “Delta Blues,” very similar to the band we have. Like us, he started out playing music as a hobby. He played in local clubs on weekends and worked a job throughout the week. I guess you could say, “it’s kind of like a chain reaction.” In addition to my father, I was inspired as well by Jimmy Hendrix, George Benson and a few others. What would you say your journey in the music industry has been like? It’s been great! Very fulfilling. Relaxing. It relaxes me more than anything, to pick up my guitar and play it. It removes anything that has gone wrong in a days time. I wouldn't give anything back that happened along my journey. Plus, we mad a little money along the way...that makes it even greater! What‟s the one thing you want everyone to know about the you? We are down to earth, regular people. We’re don’t feel like we’re more than anyone else. We’ve struggled like 99% of the people in order to make it. We love and care about people . We love what we’re doing for the people. Tell us about your previous and upcoming work as an artist? Collaborations, Performances, Concerts, Accomplishments & Affiliations. What is the High Impact Band‟s style of music? We originated from Blues, playing music similar to B.B. King….from the 1960’s era. The band gradually moved into a style more like Motown sounds. I guess you can call it “Soul or Pop.” This style includes, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Tyron Davis, Johnny Taylor and Earth Wind & Fire sounds. Who was your greatest teacher? What I’m getting ready to say, I mean—from the bottom of my heart. “I am.” I am my greatest teacher. I hear it, I sit down and listen. I’m self taught. Me and my brother taught ourselves. What advice would you give to aspiring artist? Choose an instrument you love, not one that is easy to learn. If you don't love it, you’ll never master it. Keep reaching for your goal, never give up. You’re going to have critics along the way. I think that President Kennedy, Obama and Roosevelt were all criticized, persecuted and even assonated. But they still succeeded. Be ready for criticism.
