A reflection from GoL employee Wendy Hilliard sit here yet again in Terminal ‘B’ at Palm Beach International Airport beginning my journey back home to New Hampshire after yet another National Sales Conference with Garden of Life on the turquoise beaches of Florida. To my left is a rack full of bagged snacks from which I’ve just chosen a fun, delicious option of organic puffed pea sticks. Looking closer, I notice that all of the options on the rack are labeled either Certified USDA Organic or Non-GMO Project Verified (or both). I think to myself, “Way to go Palm Beach! Way to get on board!” Crunching on my dual-certified healthy snack, I think to myself, NON “Our industry did this. GMO Project We helped get the VER I FI E D no ngmoproject.org Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified labels on the package of my airport snack, giving me, a diet concious consumer, a healthy option to choose from.” Over the years, the general public has considered the people of the Natural Products Industry who have been fighting for organic and non-GMO choices as hippies and quacks who weave conspiracy theories about our government’s deceitful acquisition of our food supply. I find it fascinating and inspiring how the tables have finally turned. Now, we are considered the experts who will hopefully save the food system and restore our family farm communities. The tipping point is fast approaching, yet there is still a lot of work to be done. We just have to keep fighting the good fight. I feel blessed that when I wake up in the morning, I don’t just have a job; I am part of a mission. I love that with almost every product we sell it means there is a Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified label going home with someone like a little advocate billboard. Let’s all keep fighting the good fight and keep this organic movement growing for our own health and the benefits of generations to come. We are all in this together.
