“ I fall more in love with Murphy every day. It’ s so exciting to see his little personality develop.”
The hospital experience was difficult because I had to undergo a C-section, but I heard from a girlfriend of mine that it isn’ t nearly as bad as getting hit by a trolley car on the cold streets of San Francisco. Murph looked exactly like his daddy when he was born, but now that he’ s a few months old, I can see that he is changing and looks more like me. He does have Ryan’ s hips, though. Ryan really only wanted to pass on his hips anyway, maintaining that they are his most attractive and enduring physical attribute.
Thankfully, my mom was able to come to Houston and help out the first two weeks. She made me some hot, soulful food, such as a simple millet recipe that is reported to help build blood cells, and a bone marrow broth that took her three days to make! I have a new level of appreciation for my mom now that I am one. Your life completely changes when you become a mom— in a way that introduces the joy of sacrifice. It also introduces the level of exhaustion found in war camps.
We Love Being Parents
Ryan loves being a dad just as much as I love being a mom. He is so loving to Murphy and so proud to be a dad. I love seeing him hold Murphy on his chest, or walk around the house with him in his arms. I love hearing Ryan tell his friends and family all about Murphy and how much he loves being a dad. I know at this point Murphy and I will be spending the most time together because he is completely dependent on me, but as he gets bigger, he is going to absolutely adore spending more time with Daddy.
I fall more in love with Murphy every day. It’ s so exciting to see his little personality develop. I can tell he is going to be a social butterfly because he loves being out in public and smiles at everyone. He is a sweet boy, but he is also mighty.
As soon as I was able to start moving around, I put Murphy in his stroller and continued my two-mile walks four-to-five times a week. I also resumed my P90X 3 workouts( modified, of course, because I am not supposed to do much while recovering from the C-section). I have been taking Wobenzym ® N every night to help with recovery, which is working great. I’ m also continuing mykind Organics Prenatal multivitamin, B-12 spray, taking my Dr. Formulated Women’ s Once Daily Probiotics and loving my morning smoothie with Organic Plant Protein Vanilla and Perfect Food ® RAW Chocolate.
Meals that are Quick, Easy and Nutrient Dense
Thankfully, the 40 pounds I gained during pregnancy is coming off pretty quickly, and I know that breastfeeding is helping with that because I eat more than ever now. I have been focusing on cooking more high-protein recipes coupled with healthy fat. I have less time than ever before to prepare meals, so my recipes have been quick, easy and nutrient dense. I also have been cooking in bulk and exploring crockpot recipes, both of which save time in the long run so I can spend more time with my guys.
There are so many blessings that I’ ve experienced in three short months of motherhood. Some of my favorites are the quiet times when I hold him before I put him down for bed, the chirping sounds he makes when he nurses, the way he wraps his fingers around my thumb and how his whole body fits perfectly on my lap. It’ s these treasurable moments that have afforded me a happiness and gratitude that are unique to being a little boy’ s mom.
