Impressionism
Impressionism is a late 19th century French-based art movement. This style was given its name by the critic Louis Leroy, who, upon viewing a work of Claude Monet’s, said that the painting was just an “impression.” While most art of the time was rigidly structured, with solid, well-mixed dark colors and strong silhouettes, impressionism focused on the feel of a scene, using odd angles, small brush stokes, and light to capture the scene, at a glance.
T.R. Miller Art Students are studying Impressionism and Post-Impressionism and have graciously provided the art work you see throughout the magazine.
