Maeve frowned, lines forming between her eyebrows. What does that mean? Why would he grab her hand to show that he’s saying thank you? Unless he’s pointing something—
Oh.
His name.
“Um… Okay?” Maeve nodded slowly, lowering her hand form his chest, “You name is T—how do you say it—Tata-a-key?”
The boy’s eyes narrowed, sighing through his nose, pointing at his chest, “Tatan’aki.”
“I don’t—” Maeve groaned, “Just—I’ll call you Aki, okay?”
Aki blinked, nodding slowly. Good, he can speak English, well kind of. His accent is… different, he spoke lowly, a growl-like quality as if it was to intimidate others to sound powerful. He can’t be from here.
He can’t be from Earth.
It sounds outlandish and silly, Maeve knows, but it’s possible. From the fur cape to his bare chest with mahogany lines and curves embedded in the skin, messy fire orange locks and his yellow eyes. Especially those fangs, sharp canines covered in black. He spoke in grunts and short answers, stance slouched and defensive.
If he isn’t from Earth, where is he from?
A powerful horn broke the silence, Aki snapping up. He glanced in the direction of the sound, fiddling something on his neck. It rattling, pulling off a pendant, holding forward to Maeve.
Maeve’s eyes widened, glimpsing at the jewelry grasped in his grip. Aki pushed the pendant closer, Maeve taking it with slow hands.
