Russia is having environmental issues. In May 17th, 2000, the President of Russia made the Presidental decree #867. There were changes in the Russian government agencies involved in environmental protection. The average level of polution exceeded the normal sanitary standard. Radioactive leaks of numerous material contaminates certain areas on dangerous levels. Forest strips that protect fields and streams are diminshing. Water in reservoirs don't meet the regulatory requirements. 30% of Russia's life declining expectancy is based on environmental causes. Many agencies and commissions in Russia were abolished. If Russian citizens really care for their environment and their saftey, they should petition and re-vote for certain organizations. The Government commission on resolving the problem of radioactive waste and the department of environmental protection were both abolished. These two organizations can make a real difference if russian citizens take action and vote them back into the public eye. Most of the pollution is based on human waste. To help with the community and different cities in Russia, there should be trash cans aligning the street to throw away garbage. Russian citizens should be picking up their own trash or start a clean up group to pick up the trash along the highways and streets. Little things like this can make a difference and soon Russia's population will not decrease but increase.
