Intervention time demonstrates a new approach and
model to teaching meaningful
skills to the children in our district. Teachers are extremely
passionate and dedicated to
making sure that every child
learns the necessary skills in a
timely manner for their future.
While some groups work
with students who are missing
or struggling with particular
skills, other groups work to
enrich students? learning. In
these
enrichment
groups,
students may read a common
text and then work in literature
circles to discuss the reading.
Some groups work on the
skill of writing essay answers
to test questions. With only a
30-minute session, teachers
must be very organized and
strategic in their planning to
get the most out of an intervention session.
Enrichment activities are designed to deepen a student?s
understanding of already mastered skills. These students
are engaging in activities that
extend and enhance learning opportunities outside the
standard curriculum.
The students love interven-
tion time. They enjoy working
in small groups and feel a
sense of accomplishment and
success. Learning is targeted
and the students are able to
see their progress charted.
They realize their gains more
easily. They look forward to
intervention time and really
connect with the teacher.
Molly, a kindergarten student
said she likes to go to Target
Time because she gets to write
a lot and do word family charts.
Another kindergarten student,
Micah, said that he gets to do
fun stu? in Target Time and he
gets to play hard word games
on the computer. In ?rst grade
the students like their enrichment groups because “We get
to read big books and take
quizzes on them,” said Sydney.
She also added that she gets to
learn more words in centers.
Lincoln County R-III is very
proud of the hard work that is
put into making sure all children are getting exactly what
they need to make them successful, in school and in life.
