Food fairs Festival of San Pere
In towns and villages throughout the island San Pere (St Peter) the patron saint of fishermen, is celebrated with lively fiestas. In coastal towns the celebrations revolve around the sea with maritime processions, regattas and sporting events. Expect lots of fireworks, music, church services and food. 28th-30th June. Popular celebrations are in the ports of Andratx, Sóller, Pollensa and Alcúdia.

The freshest local produce will be on display at several food fairs, including the Porto Colom Gastronomic Octopus Fair (28th-30th June), with restaurants in town serving up delicious octopus recipes. Others include the potato fair in Sa Pobla (8th June), the herb fair in Selva (8th-9th June) and the apricot fair in Porreres (22nd-23rd June).
Romeria de Sant Marçal
A pilgrimage (romeria) to the church of Sa Cabaneta is held on the Feast Day of Sant Marçal, the patron saint of Marratxi. There is also a small market where traditional siurell figurines and clay pottery are sold. 12th June in Sa Cabaneta, Marratxi.

Art Exhibitions
There are many worthwhile exhibitions and galleries across Mallorca, but this season be sure to check out the Pablo Picasso and ‘The Unknown Masterpiece’ exhibition at the Museu Fundacion Juan March which runs until 18th May, and the Mallorca and the Interpretation of the Landscape exhibition at the Es Baluard Museum which runs until 26th May.

Corpus Christi Classical Music
The Balearic Symphony Orchestra has concerts on the 3rd and 17th of May, and the Fundación Studium Aureumon the 20th May & 17th June. Aida, Verdi’s famous opera, comes to Palma’s Teatre Principal accompanied by the Balearic Symphony Orchestra from the 23rd-30th June.
Europe Day
Palmanova’s beachfront is the scene for this fun, family event. Stalls line the promenade serving a variety of food and drink from around Europe, and there is music, children’s activities and entertainment. 12th May in Palmanova, Calvia.
Corpus Christi is an important date in the Catholic calendar and in Mallorca there are several celebrations. The procession in Pollença is particularly impressive for its dance of Les Aguiles (the Eagles), while in Palma a mass takes place in the cathedral followed by a procession through the streets of the old city. 2nd June.
