EXCURSION ©Grigor Atanasov | Dreamstime.com The Water in Mallorca It is early summer in Mallorca and the fields are green, the birds are chirping and fresh water still trickles through the Tramuntana Mountains. Why not head off on a special excursion through the heart of Mallorca’s great mountain range for a day filled with fresh air, nature and just a few surprises. DISTANCE: 85km (53 miles) TIME: Allow a full day to complete the whole excursion, or half a day to just drive the route (no activities) SUITABLE FOR: Everyone 1 2 Lluc Monastery Back in Campanet follow signs to Selva (5km). Narrow stone-lined lanes thread their way through the sheep-filled countryside offering views across the valley and ancient church-topped villages. Just before Selva turn right into 1 Campanet and Ses Fonts Ufanes Begin the day with breakfast in the quaint village square of Campanet at the base of the Tramuntana Mountains. From there follow signs towards Coves de Campanet until you get to Ses Fonts Ufanes - natural springs found in the grounds of the Gabellí Finca. Follow the stream into the forest where, if you’re lucky enough to visit after heavy rain a spring emerges from the ground. It happens so rarely that it was declared a National Monument. Even if the springs don’t make an appearance the 3km stroll through pine forest and valley, with its almond trees and great manor house is well worth it. 54 ©Eduard Miralles 2
