EU28 & EFTA3 Monthly Car Sales Trends to June 2016 . New car sales in Europe have now risen for 34 consecutive months and show little sign of changing course with sales for 2016 to June up 9.1%. The latest indications are that the EU28 will end 2016 with total car sales of 14.9 million units (15.4m including the EFTA3) which is just 4.3% lower than the pre-crisis peak of 2007. Whilst the rate of growth remains strong we are seeing some areas of weakness. The Netherlands has seen new car sales fall by 3.6% YTD as the government continues to promote alternative fuels through tax incentives, whilst the strong Swiss Franc is still impacting new car sales in Switzerland which are down 2.3% YTD thanks to grey imports. The June 2016 36.7% decline in new car sales in Romania sounds dire but it should be remembered that June 2015 was particularly strong, accounting for 11% of the total of 2015’s Romanian car sales. However, the UK is showing signs that the market is near to its peak with sales dropping 0.8% in June and the expectations are for sales to be generally negative for the remainder of the year although the full year Total EU28+EFTA3 1.60 17.5% EU28 & EFTA3 Year on Year change 12.5% 1.40 1.20 7.5% 1.00 2.5% 0.80 0.60 (2.5%) 0.40 (7.5%) May 16 Mar 16 Jan 16 Nov 15 Sep 15 Jul 15 May 15 Mar 15 Jan 15 Nov 14 Sep 14 Jul 14 May 14 Mar 14 Jan 14 Nov 13 Sep 13 Jul 13 May 13 Mar 13 0.20 0.00 YoY movement in monthly sales 1.80 Jan 13 EU28 & EFTA3 (Excl.
