Experience UK Guide 2026 | Seite 87

A bespoke tartan range, created with local weaving mill Prickly Thistle less than 20 miles from the Castle, has already become one of the strongest performing parts of the retail offer. The project demonstrates how locally rooted, sustainability-led retail can strengthen visitor engagement while also delivering strong commercial returns.
Sustainability is another growing area of focus for the consultancy. Working alongside our sustainability partner Distinkt, the team is currently delivering a sector-first retail trial exploring whether clearer sustainability messaging can directly increase sales performance within cultural venues. The programme reflects the consultancy’ s wider belief that sustainability and commercial success should not exist in opposition to one another.
Alongside consultancy work, Stephen Spencer + Associates are also recognised contributors to industry conversations around visitor experience, retail and cultural enterprise. The team regularly speaks at international conferences and sector events, including the Museums + Heritage Show, Association for Cultural Enterprises Conference and Fáilte Ireland’ s Rethinking Retail for Attractions programme.
Whether supporting a major new cultural destination, rethinking the role of retail within a museum, or helping organisations improve operational performance during peak visitor periods, the consultancy’ s work is united by one goal: creating experiences that people genuinely remember and value.
