BLUE ALCHEMY LABS
EXPERIENCES
Blue Alchemy Labs is a creative technology and experience design studio working across themed entertainment, cultural attractions, visitor experiences, brand environments and live events. Founded by Mike Ross, the studio helps turn ambitious ideas into experiences that are story-led, technically grounded and deliverable in the real world.
THAT
WORK
T he best visitor experiences are not built around technology. They are built around what guests feel, remember and talk about afterwards. Technology matters, but only when it supports the story, the space and the people moving through it.
Its work sits between creative vision and practical execution. That often means protecting the intent of an experience while making sure the systems, infrastructure, content and operational model can actually support it. This approach has been shaped by international project work across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and North America, where successful outcomes depend on more than a strong concept or an impressive piece of kit.
A recurring challenge in the experience industry is that creative ideas are often developed separately from the systems needed to deliver them. A concept may look compelling on paper, but once media playback, lighting, audio, control systems, access, maintenance and operator workflows are considered, the real shape of the project begins to emerge. The studio works with clients and project teams to make those decisions earlier, reducing risk while strengthening the final guest experience.
Protecting the intent
At Tria Spa, MGM Macau, Blue Alchemy Labs created the content for three storm sequences for the Storm Pool experience. Working with the show systems already in place, the team shaped how LED media, lighting, sound and physical effects could be timed and combined to create a more atmospheric and engaging sensory experience. The project reflects a simple belief behind the studio’ s work: technology should elevate the story, not lead it.
That same thinking is now being applied to work with Dunedin City Council, where the studio was brought on to design the overall experience, create the technical requirements, work with its partners to deliver content and creative reviews, and oversee commissioning. The project also involves working with local Mana Whenua to help
