EW explores some regional
news highlights in the global
exhibitions industry
Hong Kong - The Hong Kong Trade
Development Council has revealed
that 9,600 exhibitors and 156,000 buyers
from 165 countries and regions attended
the seven fairs it organised in October and
November, despite ongoing demonstrations
in the territory. Stuart Bailey, Chairman of
the Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention
Industry Association, said: “Hong Kong is
used to dealing with short-term disruptions,
from the annual typhoon season to the bird
flu pandemic over a decade ago… I believe
that when the protest movement comes to
an end Hong Kong will be held-up as one
of the best case studies on how to succeed
during uncertain times.”
Netherlands - A pilot project by
venue RAI Amsterdam to collect
usable items left over at the end of an
event was so successful that a follow-up
was arranged at a second show, Aquatech.
Exhibitors were able to deliver useful
goods and materials to a special donation
room. Donations included food, furniture,
plants and flowers, electronic equipment,
decorative items, office articles and hobby
materials.
