Revving up the revenues

ello and welcome to Issue 4 of Exhibition

H

World , and can you believe we are already in the second half of 2022 ? Where has the time gone ?
What is even more remarkable is that everything seems to feel exceptionally busy ; it is barely believable that our sector only began to reopen in March of this year , and then only some markets .
If we felt this buzz of global activity was only anecdotal , then we can advance the conversation thanks to UFI ’ s latest Global Barometer , a summary for which you can read on p20 . Everything points towards a strong bounce back around the world , with notable exceptions , of course . Global exhibition revenues are expected to reach 73 % of pre-pandemic levels in 2022 , and 87 % in the first half of 2023 , according to the report , but will it sustain ? UFI say they are “ cautiously optimistic ”, and while this is only a barometer don ’ t forget , the signs are largely positive .
Elsewhere in this issue we check in with the US market as regular columnist Stephanie Selesnick looks at the next generation of exhibition leaders ( p12 ) and catch up with Jochen Witt , Dr Gerd Weber , and Jimé Essink to learn more about venueScout ( p18 ), a new one-stop-shop platform that could revolutionise the sector .
From p25 we look in-depth at logistics , starting with some searching questions on how Brexit has made life harder for British organisers and exhibitors in getting their materials into the EU . We also review the top talking points from IELA ’ s most recent conference , in which high freight charges , capacity and sustainability were all top of the agenda .
The Exhibition Guy , Stephen Murtagh , shares his advice on maximising exhibitor ROI on p34 , and we have a rundown of the latest World Exhibition Stand Awards on p37 . There ’ s more , too , but I won ’ t spoil it for you .
Well , if the Global Barometer is right and revenues are back , I do hope you find time to rest over the summer , I would hate for 2023 ’ s agenda leader to be human burn-out .
Enjoy the issue .
