EW explores some regional news highlights in the global exhibitions industry
Europe – Messe Frankfurt lost € 103m ($ 104m ) of business during 2021 but expects trade to return to normal this year .
Over the course of the pandemic , Messe Frankfurt lost a total of almost € 582m in sales ($ 598m ). Sales in 2020 were approximately € 253m ($ 257m ) and in 2019 € 729m ($ 742m ), they said . Sales for 2021 were just € 179m ($ 182m ).
However , they hope to see the events business return to normal in 2022 with sales reaching € 400m ($ 407m ).
America – Italian Exhibition Group
( IEG ) intends to acquire 50 % of Deutsche Messe ’ s companies in Mexico , Canada , and the USA , according to a signed memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) between the two organisations .
According to IEG , the non-binding agreement will boost the internationalisation of their respective show products and aid the launch of new activities .
As it currently stands , Deutsche Messe has eight active events in Mexico - two of which are already in partnership with IEG .
Asia – ASM Global , a venue management company , has announced that the Malaysia National Stadium and Axiata Arena have joined its international portfolio .
The partnership includes the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports via Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia ( PSM ).
The announcement is in line with the Malaysian Government ’ s development of the National Sports Precinct at Bukit Jalil , which hosts sports , entertainment and community events .
Europe – Germany ’ s NürnbergMesse has released its 2021 industry report , for which a large section is dedicated to sustainabiilty . It found that 70 % of power savings were due to the use of LEDs across hall and that power consumption was 10,804,203 kwh . This was less than 2020 ’ s figure , which was 12,452,370kwh . Water use ( m3 ) was also down from its 44,010 figure in 2020 , with 2021 ’ s consumption being 29,280 . NürnbergMesse ’ s total generated waste ( t ) for 2021 was 485 , which was less than 2020 ’ s total of 1,039 .
