news highlights in the global
exhibitions industry
World - The World Health
Organisation (WHO) issued new
guidelines for outdoor events and ‘mass
gatherings’ on 29 May.
Although there are some clarifications,
the new guidance largely failed to dispel the
confusion around terms.
The document described ‘mass
gatherings’ as events that could “amplify the
transmission of the virus”, while admitting
they have “substantial political, cultural,
social, and economic implications”.
Much should depend when considering
holding ‘mass gatherings’, the report said,
on whether a country is implementing
strict movement and physical distancing
measures.
The WHO has published a risk assessment
tool for events.
Monaco - The Principality of Monaco
and Informa are working on a smaller,
not-for-profit Monaco Yacht Show, to take
place 23-26 September 2020.
Organisers say it will be a carefully staged
event run in accordance with Informa’s
AllSecure health and safety standard.
Charlie McCurdy, Chief Executive, Informa
Markets, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has
had a devastating impact on all industries, not
least the international yachting community.
All parts of the industry need to work
collaboratively to ensure a speedy return and
recovery. We are playing our part by hosting
a not-for-profit Monaco Yacht Show in 2020.”
