WIE summit
Women in Exhibitions plans to run the first WIE International Summit in 2023 .
The Women in Exhibitions Network ( WIE ) was set up to fulfil the mission of empowering women in the industry whilst helping to nurture the next generation of female leaders . Members represent exhibition organisers , venues and suppliers in the event industry whose business is related to the organisation and facilitation of exhibitions or trade shows .
WIE launched a new chapter in the Netherlands which follows the success of chapters in the UK , North America and Germany and aims to facilitate networking opportunities , introduce educational programmes .
The chapter will launch the first WIE International Summit in 2023 .
Oana Cipca , founder of WIE International said : “ Launching an international event is something we wanted to do for some time now and preparations are in full swing .”
Power of Events
Events industry coalition The Power of Events has recruited six university research partners to champion the industry .
The Power of Events is a coalition of associations and businesses created to champion the entire UK events industry .
The ollaborative not-for-profit organisation has also secured financial support from across the seven sectors of the UK live events industry . Hundreds of organisations have signed up as supporters or community partners within the trade associations and support organisations , who will be showcased on the future comms hub to be launched in the autumn .
The team has also appointed an enganement manager , general manager of the event marketing association , Sophie Beasor and launched their website since re-branding from One Industry One Voice ( OIOV ) in June .
ExCeL is certified carbon neutral
ExCeL London has been certified as carbon neutral .
Sustainability organisation Carbon Saver awarded ExCeL London the PAS 2060 certification , the only internationally recognised standard for carbon neutrality .
The news signifies a key milestone in the venue ’ s wider sustainability goals , in-line with those of its owners Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre ( ADNEC ).
To date , ExCeL has signed up to the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge , committing the venue to a 50 % emissions reduction by 2030 , and to become fully Net Zero by 2050 .
ExCeL London ’ s sustainability practices include : using 100 % renewable electricity ( offsetting remaining emissions for gas , fuel , waste , water and employee commuting ); the installation of water fountains ( saving 200,000 plastic bottles every year ); operating a zero waste-to-landfill policy for over a decade ; and housing the UK ’ s largest wormery .
Jeremy Rees , CEO of ExCeL London , said : “ Sustainability is at the top of our agenda and minimising our carbon footprint is pivotal to that success . It is no longer a ‘ nice to have ’ but a ‘ right to play ’ across all businesses , not just the events sector , and the reason we ’ ve chosen to act now not later .
“ This is only the beginning on our journey to becoming Net Zero – we will be sharing a roadmap and ESG Strategy in the coming months .”
