Spread the word

T

here is no doubt about it the exhibitions industry is suffering from a recruitment crisis . There are some obvious reasons behind it – when no events could be held vast swathes of eventsprofs , whether by choice or by circumstance , fled to other professions .
But now events are up and running again , how are organisers and the supply chain coping with getting their teams back up to pace ?
This month we ’ ve investigated both the Association of Event Organisers ' report into talent in the industry and Hub . Jobs ’ s salary survey .
The results hammer home the drain of talent from exhibitions . There are almost a third fewer people in the industry than 2019 and they want greater flexibility and better pay .
Keeping the staff you have got is half the battle , so see what Easyfairs and Clarion are doing to nurture their teams ( p15 , p25 ).
The other glaringly obvious side is that the industry needs to attract new people . To do that it is vital to tell the wider world about the sociable , varied and rewarding roles on offer .
Organisers are great at singing the praises of their brands and shows , but how much do you shout about the exhibitions industry ?
So , whilst there are some brutal truths in this issue , I ’ d like to leave you with a positive challenge . Spread the word . Tell someone , anyone at all , about the creative , exciting world of exhibitions , where you build whole cities in days , keep the country trading and bring dreams to life .
