The changes may not leap out of the page but believe me when I say, there’s plenty of them. We’ve tripled our news coverage, now incorporating Event News (Pg 10-11); more coverage of events, News Focus (Pg 13-14); expanded coverage of our most popular story on our EN website, Sector Focus, investigating sectors and kicking-off with Oil and Gas (Pg 22-26) and Marketing; a new section dedicated to marketing events. The new Sector Focus is incredibly important to me because I believe that any specialist media journalist worth their weight in gold should know and understand the markets they serve, especially if we are going to recognise the achievements of those organisers in those sectors. By understanding the markets, it’s opened up all sorts of possibilities and given me the ability to be able to comment and make recommendations, no matter how small. Alternative power or battery power stands (Cover Story) is a crucial but a relatively easy story to write. The idea has been bobbling around at the bottom of the event industry ocean for some time now, and it just needed to be floated to the surface. There’s no question that using battery packs instead of venue electricity is a viable alternative and it could solve a few headaches for smaller exhibitors too. I’ve also had the pleasure of taking part in the EN Indy Awards which was an incredible event – huge congratulations to all the winners and everyone who took time out of their busy schedules enter (Pg 39-40). Lastly, I also hosted my first roundtable at Farnborough International (Pg 55-60) which was extremely insightful, and it appears that communication across all ranks is high up on the list of changes that need to be made.
