While not as good as previous years , a reasonable sized group of Pajero 4WD Club members volunteered to deliver the presold Christmas trees on behalf of OXFAM . The following are comments from participants :
Peter & Nancy Miller
As the delivery addresses we had were emailed to us prior to the activity , firstly we were very surprised to find we only had 10 trees to deliver in the Brunswick and Preston areas , but also and as we are old school , and still used the Melways , we were able to plan out our deliveries the night before .
With a somewhat warm day forecast on Sunday , Nancy and I headed down to Carlton early , leaving Heathcote about 6:30am arriving at the Princes Hill primary school shortly after 8:00am . The trees for delivery were quickly loaded by the Oxfam band of helpers and after checking for changes , we headed off . With so few trees to deliver , we were finished surprisingly early ! There is still great joy hearing children shouting down hallways “ Our Christmas tree has arrived !”
Gordon & Margaret Ainslie
We did Saturday and did two runs – Nunawading / Forest Hill with a side delivery to Canterbury then Bayswater / Bayswater North in all 16 trees and just over 100km started @ 7.00am finished about midday .
Ken & Helen Patterson We delivered on the Saturday . We were assigned 15 trees scattered across the Glen Iris area .
All went pretty smoothly until the last delivery , where it turned out that the street extended across a main road and we had to phone the customer to find out where she actually lived . Not that big a drama .
Graham Halliburton
Having spent Saturday night in Mornington and needing to pick up my navigator I did not arrive at the pick-up point of Princess Hill Primary until 10a . m .
We quickly loaded the 8 trees to be delivered between Princess Hill and Preston and set out . With navigator Annie Finnegan using a combination of Melways and phone app delivery ran pretty smooth with only one address causing some concern and requiring a phone call .
We finished about midday adjacent to what turned out to be a very good cafe on Nicholson St . where we took the opportunity to enjoy lunch and a glass of wine .
